Healthy Hair Care Routine // ft. Kristin Ess

Healthy Hair Care Routine // ft. Kristin Ess

I don’t know about you guys, but lately I have been struggling with unhealthy hair. In the past few months it’s been dry, tangles easily and is prone to breakage and split ends. If you struggle with any of these things as well it can be due to a number of things such as bleaching/coloring your hair, using heat tools too often, using the wrong hair brush, using the wrong hair products, brushing your hair when it’s wet, etc. I literally could go on. I’ve done so much research on this topic because I want my hair to be healthy! Well, I finally found a line of hair care products and a routine that has helped me get my strong, shiny and healthy hair back. I’m so excited to share this routine because I really think that it is a universal hair care routine that can help anyone who wants healthy hair!

These are the products that are the star of my routine. Kristin Ess is a celebrity hair stylist and she is seriously brilliant. Each of her products have been such a life saver. Keep reading if you want to know more about my routine and how I incorporate some of my fave products from Kristin Ess’ line.

  1. Okay, the very first part of my hair care routine is obviously to shower, but even before I get in the shower I always brush my hair. This is the best thing to do because you really shouldn’t brush your hair when it’s wet, it can cause lots of damage. Plus having brushed hair will make it easy to distribute product into your hair in the shower.

  2. Now I can get in the shower! The first thing I do is shampoo with the The One Signature Shampoo. This shampoo is sulfate free, gentle enough for daily use, clarifying and high lathering! Pretty much everything you need in life. I typically shampoo twice in a row with this, which is a good idea for anyone who uses lots of product in their hair between washes. Trust me, this shampoo is gentle enough and you want your hair to be super clean so that it’s ready to soak in your conditioner.

  3. After I rinse my shampoo out really well, I ring my hair out with my hands so that all the water is out. It’s important to do this because conditioner will not work as well if your hair is full of water. Then I section my hair into 2 parts and apply The One Signature Conditioner. I apply it almost all the way to my roots and make sure the ends of my hair are pretty saturated with it. Then I let it sit until the VERY end of my shower. The longer it sits on my hair, the better. It never leaves my hair feeling greasy or weighed down, it’s the best!

**SIDE NOTE: I also use the Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Mask once a week in place of The One Signature Conditioner. Basically after step #2, I will actually get out of the shower and towel dry my hair. Then I section my hair and apply the reconstructive mask generously all over my hair, and put it all up in a shower cap. Then I’ll chill for like an hour and really let it soak in, then I’ll get back in the shower and rinse it out. My hair always feels SO crazy soft after doing this. Highly recommend.

  4. Okay, once I’m done showering and my conditioner is rinsed out well (always rinse out your conditioner well to avoid build up), I’ll towel dry my hair.

  5. Immediately after my hair is towel dried (I still want it wet, just not dripping) I’ll spray about 10 sprays of the Weightless Shine Leave-In Conditioner. I loveeee this stuff. It acts as a leave-in conditioner and a detangler, plus it’s so easy because all I have to do is spray it on and then tousle my hair around to distribute.

  6. I usually let my hair sit for a little while before I comb it out because like I said, it’s not good to brush your hair wet. This is because wet hair is a lot more fragile. If you need to brush it while it’s wet, make sure you use a wide-tooth comb and gently comb it out.

  7. Once my hair is combed out, I section my hair into two parts and I pump 2 drops of the Weightless Shine Working Serum into each section of my hair. I always make sure to distribute it evenly, and I always start at the bottom and work my way up.

  8. Then I let it air dry and I style it. Usually I will spray some heat protectant on my hair (I use this one) and I’ll curl it. To make my curls look more beachy and lived in, I use the Dry Finish Working Texture Spray. This stuff is awesome because it separates my curls and it gives it a light hold so I never have to use hair spray.

That’s it! Hopefully you found this routine helpful, it really does keep my hair healthy and it feels stronger every wash. Kristin Ess has a ton of other super helpful hair products, but these are the best for my hair type. Definitely check the rest of her line out here, to read up on what products would be best for you.

ps. Kristin Ess now has these adorable little gift sets at Target with mini bottles. They are perfect for Christmas gifts, but they are also perfect for trying out her different products to see what you like the best! This set is my favorite because it has everything you need for perfect waves, plus it comes with a cute hair pin.
