Lakehouse Hotel and Resort | Hotel Review

Eeeeep I’m so excited to be sharing this hotel review with you guys today!! I want to start out by saying that Mihran and I have been traveling quite a bit lately and Lakehouse Hotel and Resort is DEFINITELY a new favorite hotel of ours. I’m so happy I get to share all of these details with you guys because I know you are going to fall in love with Lakehouse Hotel just like we did.

Our recent trip to San Diego was so fun, but our favorite part by far was getting to stay at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort. Everything about the resort is a complete dream, we are already dying to go back. It’s in the perfect location in Southern California, it’s close to San Diego and there’s so much to do at the resort itself between the marina, the pool, tennis, golfing, bike riding, visiting their restaurant on the marina, in-room spa experience, etc!

I could gush about how much I like this hotel for days but I want to get down to it to give you guys the info you want to know about our recent experience, so here it goes!

The Location

The hotel is located in a cute little neighborhood in San Marcos, California, just 40 miles north of San Diego and 10 miles east of Carlsbad. Honestly, this location was PERFECT. There was so much to do in the area (we found some of the best acai bowls I’ve ever had in this part of town!) Plus, we were planning to stop at The Flower Fields and just spend some time in Carlsbad in general during this trip and Lakehouse Hotel was only a 15 minute drive away.

The Property

The property is right on Lake San Marcos and the view from literally anywhere in the resort is so beautiful. (We saw swans in the marina and even a crane just walking around!!) The resort offers two pools, marina activities, tennis, golfing, bike riding, a restaurant on the marina, and like I said, THE BEST VIEWS.

The pool area is slightly elevated so you get a really pretty view of the mountains right from the pool, it’s surreal. The weather was perfect the entire time. It was sunny and we always had a good breeze from the marina. Being by the pool was def one of my favorite parts.

The entire property is really cute and updated. It obviously has all the lakehouse vibes and everything about the resort just feels new. The staff was so kind and accommodating the entire time, we really did feel so welcome.

There’s also several campfire pits around the property which was so fun. (They even give out s’mores kits at check-in!) We loved sitting by the fire at night when it got chilly out. It was the BEST way to end the night each evening.

The overall best part about the property was that if we didn’t feel like exploring that day, we could still have the best day just staying right there at the resort since there was so much to do and enjoy.

(Huge bonus: Parking was free and easy!! There is an abundance of parking spots and we were always able to find parking right by our room. SO HELPFUL.)

The Guestrooms

Okay, our guestroom was UNREAL. It had full views of Lake San Marcos, the biggest and comfiest bed and a patio with big chairs for us to sit in to take in the views.

The room also had a Keurig coffee maker, mini fridge, free wi-fi, a rain shower and cotton robes.

You guys I loved our room so much, especially thanks to our view!! It was the best feeling opening the curtains and having coffee each morning out on the balcony.

The Dining

The hotel’s restaurant, Decoy, was so good I could cry. The restaurant is lakeside, so again the views are to die for. Decoy is two floors with a casual dockside bar downstairs and a regal lodge inspired dining atmosphere upstairs. In my opinion dining atmosphere is everything and Decoy has the BEST atmosphere.

Food is also everything but that works out well because Decoy also has the best food. The menu is full of new American cuisine inspired by the great outdoors. We got the steamed mussels for our appetizer and they were perfect. We also both got ribeyes (haha no surprise) and they were SO GOOD. Mihran knows his steak and he said this was the best ribeye he’s ever had. Then we got Creme Brûlée for dessert and this was the best Creme Brûlée I’ve ever had. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give Decoy a 1000, we honestly left dinner so happy.

All in all, our stay at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort was a dream. Can you tell we really liked our time here??? I know you guys will love it as much as we do! Click here to learn more.
